Dylan Leblanc - Paupers Field

Sendspace Link

Very laid back alt-country.  Dude's only 20.  Oh, he was born in Louisiana too.   Great album.

Dan Auerbach - Keep It Hid

Sendspace Link

I shoulda posted this a long time ago.  In my opinion, best album of 2009.

7 Walkers

Sendspace Link

The 7 Walkers are  : Bill Kreutzmann, George Porter Jr., Papa Mali, and Matt Hubbard.  This album is a self-proclaimed "open love letter to New Orleans".  It even has a guest appearance by Willie.

I'm working on it!

I realize I have a few albums whose links have expired. I'm slowly fixing them. I'm gonna start with the oldest posts and work my way up. Might take a bit.

Loudon Wainwright III - Album III

Loudon's 1972 breakthrough album. It sounds just like the cover would lead you to think it would. You'll like it.

Printempo

Downtempo group from Poland. Great background music

Friday, November 19, 2010

Morphine - Yes

One of the most original groups of all time. Great Sunday music.

Eric Clapton - Unplugged

Even though everybody and their Mom already has this, I just had to post it. Running on Faith and Alberta are absolute perfection. Chuck Leavell is a piano god.

Citay - Dream Get Together

Let's try this again. If you didn't get this the first time I posted it, for the love of God get it now. AMAZING!

The Grateful Dead - Reckoning

A live acoustic album taken from the fall 1980 tour. One of my favorite Dead albums for sure. Listen to Dire Wolf and It Must Have Been The Roses and you'll see why.

Joe Purdy - Take My Blanket And Go

I really like the feel of this album. It's got a chill yet powerful thing going on, if that makes any sense.

Cowboy Junkies - The Trinity Session

Classic 1988 album, recorded in Ontario's Church of the Holy Trinity, using only one microphone. After touring the Southern USA, they were inspired to cut an album of old country and gospel songs, and record live and direct to tape. Their cover of The Velvet Underground's Sweet Jane is just simply sublime. This is about as chill as it gets.

Railroad Earth - Railroad Earth

Hot off the presses.

Wilco - Ashes Of American Flags

Audio Rip of the DVD, which was recorded in February and March 2008 at Washington D.C.'s 9:30 Club, Nashville's Ryman Auditorium, Mobile's Mobile Civic Center, New Orleans' Tipitina's, and Tulsa's Cain's Ballroom.

John Prine - Sweet Revenge

After my last post I realized that was the only John Prine album I had put up, so here's my favorite. How badass is that cover photo?!?!

John Prine - Lost Dogs + Mixed Blessings

Great album from later in his career. The songwriting, of course, is amazing. Hats off to Duckbutter for the rec.

Slackwax - Midnight EP

****LINK FIXED****
A very interesting downtempo album, with some killer beats. Canned Heat covers are always welcome.

Radio Moscow - Brain Cycles

Trippy blues-rock.

Ry Cooder - Paradise and Lunch

A classic that everyone should own. An Americana masterpiece.

Merle Haggard - Big City

I wish coke was still cola, and a joint was a bad place to be.

Will Bernard

Modern jazz guitar at it's best. Here are his two latest albums. Blue Plate Special is a stripped down album with Stanton Moore on drums, John Medeski on keys, and Andy Hess (Gov't Mule) on bass. Party Hats was nominated for a Grammy when it came out in 2008 and features horns throughout and in my opinion a more polished sound.

Widespread Panic - Live From Oak Mountain

DVD audio rip of their 2000 performance at Oak Mountain. Rock and Roll

Monday, June 28, 2010

Neil Young & Crazyhorse - Live at the Fillmore East

In case you don't have this. A flawless recording of Crazyhorse at the top of their game. Taken from their 1970 tour, which would be the last with guitarist Danny Whitten. One of the greatest guitar players of all time in my opinion.

Tuesday, June 22, 2010

Ryan Adams - BBC Sessions

In celebration of the THREE albums that Ryan is coming out with : An intimate acoustic gig from 2007 for the BBC network. Recorded in an 18th century church in East London.

Monday, June 21, 2010

Sean Hayes - Alabama Chicken

Kinda hard to describe this one. Acoustic/Folk I guess. Anyway, it's really good.

Saturday, June 19, 2010

The District Attorney's - Orders From... (EP)

Debut record from this Georgia band. Give it a whirl!

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

Givers - EP

Great band from Lafayette, LA that is starting to make waves in the music scene. Upbeat, danceable music.

Quiet Life - Act Natural

While this album is a couple of years old, it's new to me. Give it a listen

Thursday, June 3, 2010

Cracker & Leftover Salmon - O Cracker Where Art Thou?

Cracker got together with bluegrass jammers Leftover Salmon to rework some of their songs.

Wednesday, June 2, 2010

Latest album from New Orleans' adopted son. Great guitar work.

Iron & Wine w/ Calexico - In The Reins

Import version with some bonus and live tracks. I love this album.

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

Dr. John

Two classics from a Louisiana legend. Dr. John's Gumbo is basically a New Orleans tribute album filled with classic Nola songs. In The Right Place has The Meters as the backing band and is voodoo funk at it's best. If you don't have either of these, DO IT NOW!

Monday, March 1, 2010

Bonnie "Prince" Billy - Funtown Comedown

Bonnie got together with bluegrass band The Pickett Line and recorded this album live in the studio. It's bluegrass versions of his solo songs and a Merle cover too. My favorite thing he's done besides Greatest Palace Music.

Friday, February 26, 2010

Vetiver - Thing Of The Past

A collection of covers that Vetiver considers to be big influences on their lives and music. Covered artists include Townes Van Zandt, Bobby Charles, and Loudon Wainwright III among others. I also included a companion EP of covers as well. Both are very good. Enjoy!

Saturday, February 20, 2010

Neil Young - Time Fades Away

Long out of print on vinyl and never released on CD, this live album from Neil's 1973 tour is still regarded by fans as one of his best releases ever. I have to agree.

Bobby Charles - Self Titled

A Louisiana native, Bobby wrote songs for the likes of Fats Domino ("Walkin To New Orleans"), Bill Haley ("See You Later Alligator"), and Clarence Frogman Henry ("I Don't Know Why But I Do"). He was later asked to join The Band for their legendary Last Waltz farewell concert where he performed "Down South In New Orleans". Bobby just recently passed away in his hometown of Abbeville, LA. Here is his self titled album with all the members of The Band (minus Robby) and Dr. John as back up. Hats off to a Louisiana legend.
